What’s In It For Them

How many times have you heard the phrase, “What’s In It For Me?” Some people call it WIIFM. This phrase probably best defines our culture more than any other phrase. Yet, I am convinced it is a short-sighted philosophy. I would like to challenge us to change the phrase in our minds and in the minds of those we lead to a stronger, longer lasting phrase - “What’s In It For Them?”

Imagine a world where the first question was “What’s in it for Them?” Imagine if people actually thought about you first, before themselves. I believe we would have less conflicts and less lawsuits (which means less lawyers, right?).

Truett Cathey, the illustrious founder of Chick-Fil-A, says it like this: “If you help enough people get what they want you will get what you need.”

Let me start with you, write me and tell me what you need. Let me practice what I just preached. What do you need?

Jeremie-

I guess I’m the first one to jump in the mix.

‘I’m in need’ of some ideas and coaching on how to help my team meet their deadlines. Several times over the past couple of months they haven’t been able to meet the deadlines that we agreed on, and it’s affected the work we do.

My first assumption was to look at myself, and see what I was doing wrong or incorrectly such as not being clear about the deadline, not expressing the importance of the work that needed to be done.

What are your thoughts?

Hi Jeremie,

Your a God Sent. I need “Encouraging Stories” and Leadership Topics that I can share to my colleagues. I have a personal mission to help encourage our employees by sharing these thoughts of Leadership.

Thank you and more power…
