Every leader has strengths that make them who they are. Every leader also has weaknesses that could potentially lead to their downfall. In the midst of our strengths there are areas of potential weaknesses.
For instance, the powerful Greek warrior Achilles was mortally wounded from a heel wound. Superman was incapacitated by Kryptonite.
It is true that the strongest leaders have mortal weaknesses, too. In fact, we all have them.
What is your Achilles’ heel?
Here is a definition to ponder: “An Achilles’ heel is a fatal weakness in spite of overall strength, actually or potentially leading to downfall. The one weakness of an otherwise invulnerable hero.” (Wikipedia)
While it may not be inspirational, think about your fatal weaknesses? What are the things that could potentially harm your leadership?
I have found that the cares of the world, the delight in riches and the desire for other things do make me too unfruitful. I have been reviewing my own leadership and realize that there are a couple of areas that I need to shore up or they could become an achilles heel. I have two individuals that I am asking to help keep me accountabile and make sure I have thought about any fatal weaknesses.
Take the time to think about the areas that could lead to your downfall. If not for yourself, for your family and team members.
