Humility is the modest estimate of one’s own importance.
Assurance is the key to proper self-esteem
Proud people have something to prove. They are not content with who they are and feel the need to assert themselves, to convince people they are who they want to be.
Insecure people have no capacity to be humble. When you confront a person for their lack of humility, you may be accurate, but that does not mean that they can change even if they want to. Their problem rests in the perception of themselves; pride is merely the symptom.
ASSURANCE leads to SECURITY which leads to HUMILITY
LACK of ASSURANCE leads to INSECURITY which leads to PRIDE

This is a great perspective on the pride and humility topic. Relating it to assurance is good because I have yet to see someone accusing another person of being prideful that is not prideful themselves. Likewise, you rarely hear a truly humble person talk about their humility.
“Pride is merely a symptom” is the key to this whole article. It is just one more reminder of how often we focus on symptoms / effects in every area of our lives versus really finding the roots of issues and making the adjustments there.

Very interesting point of view. My question would be, assurance in what ? or rather whom? For me to have personal assurance of my own abilities would seem to feed my own sense of worth and self pride. However, if my assurance is not so much in self as it is in the Perfect One, Jesus, who loves me even though sinfully flawed, this perspective gives me the assurance that I can humbly accept myself in my failures as well as the failures of others because by grace I have been accepted in the Beloved. Failures are by no means condoned, but are used to bring repentence resulting in even more humility.
