Momentum

Momentum is a great word. It is movement that picks up speed. It finds itself in businesses, sporting events, relationships and so forth.

Momentum can go up and momentum can go down in a single day.

It was recently found in an overtime NBA game. I watch the momentum swing 2-3 times in the last three minutes of the game. It swung off of the strangest things, too. One player’s anger seemed to bring the whole team down, while an amazing slam dunk fueled the other team.

Think about your family. One person’s mood can squash an entire event, while a smile and word of encouragement can make your day.

We are humans and we are moody - we are happy, sad and mad, so on and so forth. These emotions lead us to do little things that increase positive momentum or pour fuel into negative momentum.

Positive momentum starts with little things that become game changers. For my company we realized that we were not satisfied with status quo and began really innovating our sales systems and products. While we are still in the middle of the innovation, I am forever grateful for the acts of initiative from our teammates to make things better.

  • 1. Take a second and list all of the areas of your life: Business, family, church , physical fitness, spiritual growth, etc.
  • 2. Simply put a +, - or 0 to symbolize positive, negative or zero momentum.
  • 3. Make a list of small things you can do to possibly turn a negative to a positive and a zero to productive movement.

Be a momentum builder in others’ lives. Work to make your area of responsibility move positively forward. That is the key to making momentum occur. Make sure to write and share what your momentum tips are so that we can benefit from your growth.
