Last Monday we took 3 minutes to make a list of things to say “No” to. The goal was to reestablish “No” as a good word in order to properly protect you and your schedule.
Today it is time to visit when to say “Yes.” I find that leaders, especially those who are extremely busy, forget how many people are relying on them to make decisions. “Yes” can be a liberating phrase for you and your team. If a leader stays strictly in the grayness of wishy-washy rhetoric it can cause so much frustration to a group of people. Therefore, I ask you to boldly say “No” and boldly say “Yes” when a decision is needed.
For instance, I have a team that is ready for us to finalize a decision on our future building situation. A “Yes” would help them make decisions. I am personally ready to say “Yes” to a publishing opportunity that would chart our course over the next couple of years. You get the drift. What “Yes” decisions do you need to make?
